UNSEEN SAHARA
This is the Sahara desert published in the National Geographic Magazine, October 2009 issue.
George Steinmetz made the aerial pictures for this story from his motorized paraglider.
SAHARA - everyone knows this is a vast deposit of sands and stones, a desert. Rarely it is known to people that an ecological niche is thriving when rain comes and soon the people deserted the place when there is none. They are adapting to the changes in their environment.
However, after 5000 years ago when rain had stopped, the people stayed and it was evident in the rock art that they had made the transition from hunting to raising livestock.
